Energized in 1940, we are a member-owned rural electric cooperative serving 13,920 members in four Pennsylvania counties - Bedford, Fayette, Somerset and Westmoreland and one county in Maryland - Garrett.
The cooperative maintains 1,831 miles of energized electric lines. Somerset Rural Electric employs 43 employees and is governed by a board of nine directors elected by the membership.
Available to members of the Cooperative for all domestic and farm uses subject to the established rules and regulations of the Cooperative. Service under this schedule may be used for water heating and domestic space heating. Space heating installations should be approved by the Cooperative.
Single-phase at available voltage.

Minimum Distribution Delivery Charges
The minimum monthly distribution delivery charge shall be the higher of one of the following:
1. The minimum monthly charge specified in the contract for service.
2. The consumer charge plus the demand charge.
Determination of Delivered Billing Demand
The delivered billing demand shall be the greater of:
1) the maximum kilowatt demand established by the consumer for any period of fifteen consecutive minutes during the month for which the bill is rendered; or
2) minimum demand specified in applicable Agreement for Electric Service.
Determination of CP Billing Demand
The CP billing demand shall be the consumer’s 60-minute integrated kW demand occurring in each month during the same hourly period in which the Cooperative’s wholesale billing demand is established pursuant to the effective wholesale rate schedule of Allegheny Electric Cooperative, Inc.
Determination of Excess Demand
The Excess Demand shall be the kW difference determined by subtracting the CP demand for the month from the consumer’s NCP demand. The NCP demand shall be the maximum 15-minute integrated demand occurring during any clock hour of the billing month.
Determination of Billing kVAR
The billing kVAR shall be the amount by which the maximum measured kVAR exceeds one-third of the number of kW of NCP Demand.
Peak Period Notification
The Cooperative shall provide peak period notification by use of the Cooperative’s load management system, telephone system, or other appropriate means if requested by the member in writing. The consumer is responsible for interrupting electric load upon receiving notification. Failure by the Cooperative to provide notification does not relieve the consumer of any charges determined in accordance with the Generation and Transmission provision of the Monthly Rate.
Demand Charge Adjustments
The charges in Parts I and II of the Schedule of Monthly Rates, are subject to adjustment for changes in the Cooperative’s cost of service. Such adjustments will occur for the summer billing periods most influenced by PJM’s “High Five” billing periods. The Generation and Transmission Co-incident Peak rates will increase from $12.21 to $18.04 during this period.
